Sayre Underwood, BSMT (ASCP)

As the Owner of Underwood Consulting, Inc., Sayre has a diverse background in healthcare, technology and business. She has a B.S. in Medical Technology from the University of Central Florida and is a licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist in all areas of testing.

Some of the highlights of her 12 years in the hospital setting include patient testing in all specialties, five years as Microbiology Supervisor, Pharmlink Software Coordinator, and Assistant to Medical Examiner - Toxicology Testing. 

 

She has served as a Technical and Operational Consultant since 2004 in a variety of practices including Primary Care, Endocrinology, Toxicology, Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Urology, Reference Laboratories, Pathology/Cytology POLs and Urgent Care Centers.

Sayre is also a licensed Florida Real Estate Broker working with physicians and investors, as well as a licensed private pilot. With this diverse background, experience and perspective, Sayre has the ability to create order out of complexity and assist in all areas to ensure comprehensive compliance. She is committed to empowering clients to provide quality patient testing, be inspection ready, and maximize their resources for the best possible outcomes in all areas of their practice.

Graham Mafela, MLS (ASCP), MBA

We are pleased to announce that Graham is now our Director of Client Services. His results-oriented approach as a former COLA Inspector, as well as his supervisory and managerial experience in the hospital laboratory provide him the global perspective needed to provide oversight to our Consulting Services . He earned his B.S. Degree in Medical Technology, a Specialist Certification in Blood Banking and Hematology from the University of Zimbabwe, and his M.B.A. from Wesleyan University in Indiana. He is a Florida Licensed Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in all areas of testing.

While serving as a COLA Surveyor he won the Rookie of the Year Award, reflecting his commitment to quality and the respect of his peers. Graham consistently provided assistance to laboratories as needed, to ensure successful implementation of quality systems and improvement of laboratory services. Clients will find him an invaluable resource for compliance with CLIA/COLA regulatory interpretation, as well as all state lab licensure requirements. He represented COLA nationwide and is an expert in the integration of all states' requirements and states' laws.

As a Supervisor and Manager of various Blood Banks and Laboratories, Graham has been responsible for establishing and maintaining comprehensive compliance system wide. With 15 years of hospital laboratory experience and success in the regulatory, technical, and business realm, Graham is a tremendous asset and valuable resource to all our clients.

Estelle Loxsom, MT (ASCP) SH

As a former COLA Inspector, Estelle possesses the expertise and perspective to assist clients in all areas of compliance in their POL or Reference Lab.  She has a B.S. Degree in Biology Education with a Chemistry Minor from the University of Arizona and is a licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist in all areas of testing. 

 

During her 20 years as a Medical Technologist in California hospital laboratories, she worked in all specialties, including the lead position for Hematology.  She is an experienced educator, training staff in Hematology and Apheresis instrumentation for various manufacturers and is also a prolific writer of technical communications, policies, procedures and educational publications.  Several of her articles have been published in COLA Insights while she served as Accreditation Surveyor.

As well as writing, she has worked as a Technical Consultant since 2005 in a wide variety of practices with a focus on POLs, ensuring compliance and success in all areas of their clinical laboratory.
